The line stretched back and forth across the checkout area multiple times hours after Marshalls and HomeGoods opened their first South Dakota store Oct 19.

The line to checkout stretched across the Marshalls store Oct. 19.

The national retailers opened a combination store at Lake Lorraine, and shoppers were waiting outside the doors by 8 a.m.

The stores are connected inside and share a checkout area.

For the grand opening, shoppers who registered for reward cards could spin a wheel to win gift cards and other giveaways. The grand opening goes on until 10 tonight.

Regular store hours will be 9:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday.

Carter’s OshKosh B’gosh also opened to a solid crowd. The store sells clothing and shoes for infants through 8-year-olds.

“This is dangerous,” one shopper commented to another, gathering up an armful of kids’ clothing.

Regular hours will be 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday.
