Big Rig BBQ closes up to head to Sturgis

Aug. 1, 2018

If you’re hungry for Big Rig BBQ in the next two weeks, you’ll have to drive 370 miles.

The smokers are headed to the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, so the restaurant at 41st and Minnesota is closed until mid-August.

This is the first time that Bob Brenner, who owns Big Rig with his wife, Nichole, has been to the rally.

“I usually don’t get to have fun,” he joked. “I always wanted to come one way or another. An opportunity came up, and we took it.”

He was in Sturgis on Tuesday with one of the trailers and was heading back to Sioux Falls for more.

“It’s going to be 10 days of working hard,” Brenner said.

Big Rig will be in the center of the storm, behind Flo’s Chop Shop on Main Street. The temporary lounge, named after Progressive’s spokeswoman, will offer beard trims, boot shines, airbrush tattoos and coffee during the rally. The insurance company is the rally’s title sponsor.

The rally runs from Aug. 3-12, so Brenner expects to reopen the restaurant a few days after that.
