Employees at Avera McKennan Hospital & University Health Center now can order groceries online and pick them up the next day on their way out of an employee parking lot.

The new convenience is thanks to a partnership with Hy-Vee and its Aisles Online program, which has a newly installed locker in the employee parking lot off Cliff Avenue near 20th Street.

“At Avera, we value our workforce and want to promote balance and time with those they hold dear,” said Tom Bosch, Avera McKennan vice president of hospitality. “The Hy-Vee Aisles Online locker allows employees one less stop on the way home from work – helping maximize time with their loved ones and adding convenience to their lives.”

Employees use a specific PIN number when placing an order on the Hy-Vee Aisles Online website and are able to pick up their groceries the following day. The lockers hold dry, refrigerated and frozen items.

“Employees are excited and taking advantage of this convenient new offering. In the first few weeks, roughly two dozen orders have been placed and delivered to our campus,” Bosch said.

It’s among the first locker programs offered by Hy-Vee.

“Hy-Vee Aisles Online lockers are a very unique service. At this time, there are only three Aisles Online lockers throughout our eight-state region that are not located on Hy-Vee property,” said Kurt Hasson, group vice president of e-commerce development for Hy-Vee.

‘While we do not have immediate plans to expand the service in Sioux Falls, we are looking for opportunities to partner with organizations that would be interested in leasing an Aisles Online locker.”

Avera might grow the program, Bosch said.

“As demand increases, we will work in partnership with Hy-Vee to determine the possibility of expanding to additional Avera locations in Sioux Falls.”
