Autoland moving first vehicles to new location

By Jodi Schwan

Autoland will start selling its first vehicles from a new location by the end of this week – although the dealership isn’t quite done yet.

The plan is to move the 40 or 50 vehicles from the location at 4201 E. 10th St. to the new 6-acre site at at 2400 and 2600 N. Maple Lane, west of the Interstate 29 and Russell Street interchange.

The current east-side location will become a location for Discount Tire, a national chain that is expanding to Sioux Falls.

Crews work on Autoland’s new location.

The Autoland sales staff will work out of mobile offices until the sales office is done this fall. The service department is scheduled to be done late this year or early next year.

Brad Dumdie founded Autoland 15 years ago and originally envisioned having up to five locations. But as the way people shopped for cars changed, one central location made more sense. The new location will include a photo booth to take high-quality photos of vehicles, a detailing area and have enough space for 200 vehicles.

It will take about half the property, leaving land left for additional commercial development.

Autoland’s location at 2524 S. Minnesota Ave. will become the new home of Autoland’s Budget Lot, which is located on leased property at 4401 E. 10th St.

To reduce inventory, Autoland is running a back-to-school and moving sale.

“Any inventory we can remove is less we have to move,” Dumdie said. “It’s that time of year for back to school – not just kids’ cars but minivans and SUVs for moms and dads.”
