As wine bar prepares to open, Washington Square seeks right fit for the rest

Oct. 5, 2018

When Wine Time on Main opens later this month at Washington Square, the downtown building will be down to one remaining commercial space.

The upscale wine bar will complement Parlour Ice Cream House, which opened earlier this year.

“Both Wine Time and Parlour are first-class operations that really show what’s possible for retail at Washington Square,” said Raquel Blount of Lloyd Cos., who represents the building.

“Parlour has been tremendously well-received by downtown and by the residents at Washington Square, and we know Wine Time is going to deliver a similar experience.”

As residents have moved into the building, which now has only about 25 percent of its residential space left, activity for the commercial space below also has increased, Blount said.

“It’s a built-in clientele of residents who love supporting downtown businesses, as well as their guests who also love to spend time in the building,” Blount said. “Our office space on the fourth floor also is entirely full, so as those businesses have moved in with their employees, we’ve seen a positive effect on the nearby businesses.”

There’s 5,500 square feet remaining on the first floor, Blount said.

“Our vision continues to be for a full-service, destination restaurant,” she said. “We’ve had significant interest and feel it’s only a matter of time before the right deal comes together. The building is eager to support whoever chooses to invest in a business at that location.”

The space also could be subdivided, she said, and includes options for outdoor seating.

“We’ve had strong regional operators as well as local restaurateurs look at it,” Blount said. “With the Washington Pavilion across the street and 125 enclosed parking spaces available above the restaurant, it offers a very unique opportunity for a downtown establishment. We’re confident someone is going to be eager to take advantage of it.”
