Amazon opens last-mile warehouse in Sioux Falls

March 25, 2021

Amazon has opened its first warehouse designed to support the so-called “last mile” of its delivery process in Sioux Falls.

The e-commerce giant is leasing 60,000 square feet of a new building at 800 E. 60th St. N.

“We are excited to increase our investment in South Dakota with the state’s first delivery station to provide fast and efficient delivery for customers,” Amazon said in a statement.

“The Sioux Falls delivery station opened earlier this month, providing dozens of work opportunities for the talented local workforce.”

The warehouse includes an area where the signature Amazon delivery vehicles can pull through to pick up deliveries, said Gregg Brown of NAI Sioux Falls, who leased the space.

Amazon’s delivery stations are designed to speed up fulfillment, but same-day delivery still isn’t available in Sioux Falls. Customers will see the fastest delivery option available at checkout.

The project is independent of the larger fulfillment center under construction at Foundation Park.

Delivery stations receive products from Amazon fulfillment centers and then deliver them to customers.

Amazon is advertising for a number of jobs at the warehouse in north Sioux Falls, including picker packers, warehouse workers and delivery drivers. Pay starts at $15 per hour.

The building is owned by a North Dakota investment group and is shared with Dakota Supply Group, or DSG, which also leases 60,000 square feet. DSG is a distributor of products for the electrical, plumbing, HVAC, utility and communications industries.
