Augustana’s presidential inauguration: A business leader’s guide

Events celebrating the inauguration of Stephanie Herseth Sandlin as Augustana University’s 24th president are set for Sept. 10-16. The weeklong celebration offers a number of opportunities for members of the Sioux Falls-area business community to participate:
Monday, Sept. 11: Great Professors Faculty Symposium, 3-4:30 p.m., Froiland Science Complex
Hear short presentations from Augustana professors on a variety of topics, including “Hacking the Human Genome: Past, Present and Future of Designer Babies,” “Dying to Know: Dying as a Personal Journey in a Social Context,” “Likes, Comments and Narcissism on Facebook,” “Baseball Heroes: Saints and Sinners, Saviors and Villains,” “Nursing Students’ Perspectives of Clients Experiencing Poverty” and “Fecal Matters: A Critical History of Our Global Sanitation Crisis.”
These presentations will be done in a TED-talk style and also will be broadcast on Facebook Live from Augustana University’s page.
Tuesday, Sept. 12: Tables of Content: Chapter 24, 4:30-6:30 p.m., Froiland Science Complex
Attend an event just for the Sioux Falls-area business community featuring hors d’oeuvres, good conversation with President Stephanie Herseth Sandlin, and Humanitas Wines, presented by Jessup Cellars and now available in South Dakota.
Wednesday, Sept. 13: Student Research and Creativity Symposium, 3-4:30 p.m., Froiland Science Complex
Students from each of the university’s academic divisions — natural science, social science and humanities — will present their research, art and writing.
Thursday, Sept. 14: Dedication of Nelsen and Balcer apartment buildings, 10 a.m., Summit Avenue
The 13,780-square-foot Nelsen Apartment Complex is named after former AU President Dr. Bill Nelsen (1980-86) and is the newest housing option for Augustana students. Balcer Apartments at 33rd Street and Summit Avenue is being renamed after former President Dr. Charles Balcer (1965-80). Both buildings will be dedicated at this event.
Friday, Sept. 15: Inauguration ceremony and reception, 3:30 p.m., Elmen Center
The official investiture ceremony of President Stephanie Herseth Sandlin, followed by a reception.
