GreatLIFE Golf & Fitness is teaming up with Chief Master Hoover’s Martial Arts School to provide a three-part self-defense class Saturday, June 10, to its members and the community.
The class will be from 1 to 5 p.m. at GreatLIFE Woodlake Athletic Club, 4600 S. Tennis Lane.
“The goal of this class is to help people understand their strengths and weaknesses so they can properly defend themselves,” said Larry Hoover, the owner of Chief Master Hoover’s Martial Arts School. He will teach the class with taekwondo black belt holder Stephen Rueber. Both are known for their accomplishments in black belt training, and Hoover is a certified self-defense instructor.
The class will start with psychology prevention that will help familiarize participants with different scenarios and teach the do’s and don’ts of self-defense. The second part of the class will focus on how to handle and stop harassment in social and professional settings, and the third part will teach how to physically defend against sexual assault.
Hoover and Rueber are passionate about teaching self-defense.
“If I can help one person from being assaulted, then that was the best four hours spent,” Hoover said. He hopes to offer more classes.
The class is open to those 12 and older. Minors are encouraged to have a parent or guardian present during the class. The fee is $50 for GreatLIFE members and $75 for others. Free child care will be provided.
To sign up, call 605-361-0445 or stop by GreatLIFE Woodlake.
