Alcohol-free social space finds new location
March 13, 2026
A “third place” in Sioux Falls is moving to another location.
Good NAtured, established by owner Shannon Ward at 921 E. Eighth St. in 2024, opened the dedicated nonalcoholic social space as a welcoming environment outside of home and work where community, creativity and conversation can thrive.
In a few weeks, it will reopen at 2501 W. 10th St., former home of the Detour Bar just east of Kiwanis Avenue. When it does, Good NAtured will offer food and an expanded line of beverages.

The plan is to offer lighter cafe fare such as grain-bowl salads, paninis and a buffet on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, with the possibility of a breakfast buffet. The menu will include a deconstructed avocado toast so customers can put on the accompaniments that they want, Ward said.
A grab-and-go case offering chicken salad and other pre-made salads will be available. Since the 10th Street and Kiwanis Avenue area is a “dessert desert,” Ward said, baked goods also will be offered. She plans to grow into catering.

“It’s important to me that it (the menu) is not fried food,” Ward said. “It will be unconventional, not what you would typically find in a bar space.”
With six taplines available, Good NAtured will offer nonalcoholic Covert Artisan Ales on tap, Covert’s root beer and cream soda and Songbird Kombucha on draft. Ward is working with Covert to create a ginger beer on tap.
Ward started Good NAtured 2023 by hosting events and pop-up gatherings at other sties. It originally planned to offer food at its first location, but Ward said she and city officials had a misunderstanding.
“The original intention was to have people come around a table of food and good things would happen,” Ward said. “I’m very excited to also be able to serve drinks. In this space, it’s all canned and bottled items.”
Ward plans to set up a lockbox in the new space so people can be present for activities without the distraction of their cellphones. One of Good NAtured’s focuses is to offer classes in various areas such as kintsugi, the Japanese art of repairing pottery with gold, and talking circles.

The new location will include the current offerings along with additions like a weekly trivia night and a 12-week immersive art opportunity with three tiers. Many local artists enjoy teaching others the techniques they have learned, Ward said.
Good NAtured’s dynamic will change in the new location with the “’70s basement” space being eliminated. “It probably won’t have a comfy seating area,” Ward said. “It might feel a little bit more cafe than it does here. Here, it’s a hang-out space. There, this will be more what people are used to going to when they’re at a bar.”

The new space will offer Good NAtured customers more parking, Ward said. Renovation is going on now with some volunteer assistance.
“We were planning to move into the space and not do construction, but the contractor said the thing you want to do is not that difficult, and the landlord was willing,” Ward said.
She hopes to open in April or May at the latest. The grand opening will be in June. The Eighth Street location will close on Wednesday, March 18.
