Fleet of 7 food trucks ready to serve graduations, other special events

This event listing is sponsored by Backyard BBQ.

Whether your taste is for barbecue, burgers, specialty fries or sweets, a fleet of food trucks is ready to support your next event.

Owner Eric Elenkiwich started the Backyard BBQ food truck division more than a decade ago.

“We started with one food truck and slowly grew our fleet of food trucks to seven,” he said.

There are four Backyard BBQ food trucks, each offering a customizable menu of pulled pork, brisket and smoked chicken sandwiches, along with sides such as molasses baked beans, mac-and-cheese and coleslaw.

Other food trucks include:

  • Ollies, offering gourmet burgers, smoked wings, beef chislic, all-beef hot dogs, Stensland Family Farms cheese curds and fresh-cut fries.
  • Willy’s Fries, which focuses on variety of loaded french fries, including poutine, cowboy, chili cheese and gyro varieties.
  • Street Sweets, with a menu of hand-scooped Stensland ice cream and fresh-squeezed strawberry and lemonade.

Elenkiwich is beginning to book events for the season ahead.

“Food trucks are great for groups from 25 to 1,500 people,” he said. “If you’d rather all meals be on one check, we’re able to create a special menu the hosts can select with different price points.”

To be on-site in the Sioux Falls area, events must purchase a minimum of $500 in food for a two-hour serving period and $150 for each additional hour. If the minimum is not met, hosts are changed the difference but also given that amount in food.

“You can book multiple food trucks for your event as long as the $500 minimum is met off of each truck,” Elenkiwich said. “We also have the option where individuals can pay for their meals, too, with the a la carte menu.”

Fridays and Saturdays always fill up first, he added. The food trucks are popular with high school and college graduation parties, weddings, rehearsal dinners, anniversary celebrations, birthday parties, church groups, customer appreciation meals and corporate events such as trainings or celebrations for achieving workplace goals.

“With seven food trucks, we have a lot of flexibility throughout the summer,” he said. “Food trucks work great for all types of groups and events, service time is very quick and makes cleanup easy so you can enjoy your event and you don’t have to cook.”
