Restaurant Roundup: Soft-serve downtown, pumpkin flavor’s arrival, matcha and more matcha

Totally Rad Eats at Fernson Downtown now serves soft-serve ice cream. Get it in a cup or as a malt or shake. Choose vanilla, a rotating fruit-flavored option or get a twist of both.

Big Lost Meadery & Brewery now allows customers to mix-and-match beer and mead on flights.

While you’re there, check out the taproom’s recently released brews, new mead cocktails and frozen sloshies. Among the many options are Nordic Summer, Dark Blueberry Sour and Green Apple Sloshie, which are shown in the photo below.

And at Ranch & Roost, which shares the building with Big Lost, try the new Southern Belle and Southern Beau sandwiches. Both have pimento cheese spread, applewood-smoked bacon, honey drizzle and a choice of optional toppings like lettuce, pickles, tomatoes and onions.  The Belle is a Southern fried or grilled chicken filet, and the Beau is two smashburger beef patties.

M.B. Haskett Delicatessen has a new dinner menu.

Sickies Garage Burgers & Brews has added “one for the road” mac-and-cheese dinners. Buy an entree, and get the to-go bonus meal for $7. Add a protein for an extra $3.

Sonic Drive-In is offering $1 snacks from 2 to 5 p.m. daily this month. Get a pretzel twist, corn dog or two-piece mozzarella sticks.

The DQ Grill & Chill in Hartford is offering a back-to-school Receipt Day. Keep your receipt for items purchased Friday, bring it back by Aug. 31, and save that amount on your bill. The restaurant also is giving away gift cards from local businesses in a drawing at the end of the day.

The launch party for the 2025 SEUW Brew is Friday at Severance Brewing Co. Sioux Empire United Way teamed up with the brewery for the collaboration. During the launch party from 3 to 6 p.m., $1 from every beverage sold, include nonalcoholic options, will be donated to the organization. This year’s SEUW Brew is a tropical sour, an ale infused with dragon fruit, passion fruit and mango. The limited-edition brew also will be available at select retailers, with $1 from every four-pack sold going to SEUW.

Songbird Kombucha is hosting a pop-up mocktail party with Dripp from 3 to 6 p.m. Friday. It’s a chance to try one-time drinks, buy dried fruit earrings and enjoy some vinyl music.

DaDa Gastropub is offering BOGO “pounders” and an extended happy hour for the rest of the month. Hours are 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. During happy hour, pounders are one for $3 or two for $5.

August features at Maribella Ristorante are Prosciutto di Parma, Asparago Pizza and Panna Cotta.

The dessert of the month at Squealer’s Smoke Shack in Tea is a warm churro with ice cream and a choice of chocolate, caramel or strawberry sauce.

Stensland Family Farm’s sundae of the month is Lemon Berry Cheesecake Swirl with dips of Lemon Berry Cheesecake and Strawberry Fields ice creams, topped with cheesecake chunks, strawberry drizzle and whipped cream. The shake of the month is Butterfinger Blast with vanilla ice cream, peanut butter and Butterfinger crumbles.

Pumpkin-flavored drinks and foods are starting to appear already.

  • This is the first season in Sioux Falls for the Pumpkin Snowy at The Human Bean. Get it hot, iced or blended. Other drinks include Pumpkin Java Chip, Pumpkin Granita, Pumpkin Patch and Pumpkin Smoothie.

Pumpkin spice pancakes are on the menu at IHOP.

Nekter Juice Bar has a new line of cold-pressed juices that are grab-and-go ready: The Glow, classic greens; The Happy Belly, strawberry lemonade; The Remedy, prebiotic greens; The Defense, turmeric lemonade; The Day After, “pina coco-ade”; and The Full Reset, celery detox. Get one for $6.50 or mix-and-match any four for $24.

After rounds of testing, La Luna Cafe has added matcha drinks to the menu in four varieties: Matcha Milk Tea, Lavender Coconut Matcha, Strawberry Milk Matcha and Tres Leches Matcha.

Coffee Roasterie also has added traditional matcha and a matcha latte that’s lightly sweetened and served either hot or iced.

Three food trucks will be at Uppercut’s End of Summer Bash on Saturday: The Black Sheep Food Truck, Breaking Burrito and Roscoe’s Kitchen. The party starts at 11 a.m., and there’s a $10 entry fee. Activities include Beer Olympics, a corn hole tournament, a DJ playing rock and oldies all day in the parking lot and an EDM show inside that starts at 10 p.m.

Get a free domestic pint this month when you donate school supplies at The Hideaway in Brandon. The limit is one beer per person per day.

Changes in hours, service

  • Sunday is the final day of the season for Polar Bites. It’s open from noon to 9 p.m. each day.
  • Central Dakota Perk in Harrisburg is closed until Tuesday.
  • TJz Bar & Restaurant in Colton had planned to be closed for two days at the beginning of the week as it started a remodeling project, but that has turned into a longer time. It will be closed for at least another week, with the possibility of offering carry-out food next week. Check the TJz Facebook page for updates.
