This week’s Up-and-Comer is Julia Andresen, a business development executive at Avera Health Plans.

Name: Julia Andresen

Age: 24

Hometown: Brandon

What brought you to Sioux Falls?

My family and I moved to the Sioux Falls area the year I started kindergarten when my dad took a job at POET.

What keeps you in Sioux Falls?

I choose to stay in Sioux Falls because it offers the perfect blend of professional fulfillment and personal happiness. Working for Avera Health Plans not only allows me to contribute to a faith-based, mission-driven health care organization, but it also provides me with a supportive community of colleagues who share similar values and interests. Sioux Falls is a vibrant city with many worthy organizations for young professionals to get involved in. Most importantly, my family is here.

What’s your favorite thing about your job?

My favorite thing about my job is the ability to learn from and partner with business leaders from across the state. It’s a privilege to serve and provide them with health care solutions that contribute to their success.

How did you get connected to your industry?

Attending the University of Sioux Falls opened the door to numerous opportunities that have significantly shaped my career path. The professors at USF not only provide a strong academic foundation but also leverage their networks to connect students with internships within Sioux Falls. Thanks to these connections, I secured an internship at a company that is one our current partners.

Describe your workplace in three words.

Compassionate, community-oriented, service-driven.

What is something someone might be surprised to learn about you?

I have run five half-marathons. Looking forward to running my sixth in the beautiful Black Hills in June.

What’s your favorite way to give back to your community?

Mentoring through Lutheran Social Services has allowed me to build meaningful relationships while positively impacting the youth in Sioux Falls. By sharing my experiences and guidance, I can empower the younger generation to overcome challenges and reach their full potential.

What’s one business you’d like to see in Sioux Falls that isn’t here now?

Krispy Kreme doughnuts and a Dutch Bros drive-thru. The perfect combination!
