Schwan’s Co. to break ground on Sioux Falls facility this week

Nov. 12, 2024

Schwan’s Co. leaders will put shovels in the ground this week, marking a ceremonial groundbreaking for their new Asian food production facility in Sioux Falls.

The invite-only groundbreaking will be Wednesday on a 142-acre parcel at Foundation Park where the company plans to build a 700,000-square-foot facility.

Earlier this year, Schwan’s leaders shared that they also plan to open a regional office in downtown Sioux Falls.

Schwan’s, which is a U.S.-based food company and a subsidiary of South Korea-based CJ Foods, initially announced plans in 2021 for the new plant in Sioux Falls, “which is projected to cost hundreds of million dollars and add more than 600 new employees,” the company said in a statement earlier this year.

At the time, a downtown office hadn’t been identified, but the plan was to begin with 50 “high-paying jobs” with the potential to grow to 100 jobs once the production facility is complete.

Assuming plans stay on track, the Sioux Falls project would begin vertical construction in the spring and open in 2027.
