Callie Beisch, CPA, tax partner
Which of Eide Bailly’s core values resonates with you the most and why?
My career at Eide Bailly is primarily relationship-driven, whether it is serving clients by making meaningful relationships and becoming a trusted business adviser or advising our associates on their career path within the firm. The relationships and the people make Eide Bailly such a special workplace. The culture is nurturing, caring, professional and fun, all at the same time.
What advice would you give to a young person pursuing a career in accounting?
Find your passion, and pursue it. Whether you want to be a forensic accountant, a tax preparer, a CFO or an accounts payable clerk, find something that gets you excited to come to work each day. Every day in public accounting differs from the day before, and that’s why I enjoy this career so much.
How do you stay connected to the Sioux Falls community?
I’ve lived in Sioux Falls most of my life and am a proud graduate of Lincoln High School. I have been on the board of directors and fundraising committee for the Sioux Falls Public Schools Education Foundation. I also volunteer with the South Dakota CPA Society and currently serve as the scholarship committee chair. I stay connected to my university, USD, through the Beacom School of Business alumni mentoring program, mentoring several students, answering their questions about careers in accounting and providing real-life examples of what a career in accounting could look like.
Eric Hansen, principal – fraud and forensic advisory services
Which of Eide Bailly’s core values resonates with you the most and why?
Culture was one of the main reasons I joined Eide Bailly nine years ago. Eide Bailly cares passionately about its clients and always strives to provide them with the best service. Also, Eide Bailly cares just as passionately about its employees by treating them as professionals, with respect and providing a fun atmosphere to work in.
What advice would you give to a young person pursuing a career in accounting?
I would advise new professionals to explore the numerous options and career paths in accounting. Accounting is a universal skill you can apply to almost any industry, business or task. There are many more career paths in accounting outside of the traditional tax and assurance offerings, such as the career path I chose in a specialty service of forensic accounting.
How do you stay connected to the Sioux Falls community?
I stay heavily connected within the Sioux Falls community because it is a great place to live and work. I have attended numerous chamber mixers, events and leadership classes and have given presentations. I sit on the South Dakota Alzheimer’s Association executive board and the Sioux Falls Alzheimer’s Association Walk executive leadership team. I volunteer at my local church, coach youth girls basketball and stay busy attending my kids’ extracurricular activities.
Judon Mettler, assurance partner
Which of Eide Bailly’s core values resonates with you the most and why?
Three of these core values are and have been driving factors for me: culture, relationships and people. These three values are connected in many ways and are part of my career daily. Every day, we strive to serve our clients by helping them grow their businesses and navigate challenges, support our staff by helping them grow personally and professionally, and build relationships with other business leaders. Mentors and peers within our Sioux Falls office and firmwide have influenced my career, and I hope to mentor younger staff members to help them develop their career paths.
What advice would you give to a young person pursuing a career in accounting?
Interview for and complete as many internships as you are able. An internship provides great work experience and a glimpse into the company culture. I also recommend obtaining your CPA license quickly after college. Life only gets busier the longer you work. The designation also helps set you apart from others.
How do you stay connected to the Sioux Falls community?
Our family, along with many other families, started a new church this past fall on the south side of Sioux Falls called Redeeming Grace Church of Sioux Falls. I volunteer as a Sunday school aide after worship service. Hearing my two girls singing songs or playing church at home has been rewarding and heartwarming. I have also been able to attend some recent community events supporting other women in business, including the SME Women in Business and EmBe’s Tribute to Women. These events connect women in business with each other, help inspire others to strive for their own goals and help make connections within the community.
