New business takes mini-doughnuts beyond typical cinnamon-and-sugar
Sept. 23, 2022
Bud Molyneux knew his idea of selling a savory snack at craft breweries was a good idea – he just needed the right food to get his wife, Candy, on board.
When he finally suggested mini-doughnuts, she easily agreed, she said.
They started Donut Envy and have done four events so far, but they have a big weekend coming up.
Tonight, they debut three new flavors at Severance Brewing Co., Saturday they’ll be at Remedy Brewing Co.’s Oktoberfest, and Sunday they’re partnering with Severance on a mini-doughnut and beer pairing.
While cinnamon-and-sugar is the traditional flavor, the Molyneuxes are bringing new tastes to the carnival treat. Their new sugared offerings fit the season: apple cider, salted caramel and pumpkin spice.
Donut Envy uses State Fair equipment and products. The prepared mini-doughnuts are baked fresh on-site in an oven.
“We wanted to avoid the grease and the cleanup and the mess,” Molyneux said.
Mini-doughnut orders come by the dozen or by the bucket, which is at least 20 treats, she said.
Some of the mini-doughnuts for the Severance beer pairing will go beyond a simple sugared coating. One is topped with blueberries, and another has bacon with a maple glaze.
Tickets for the pairing, which runs from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday, are available at SeveranceBeer.com.
Donut Envy is available for birthday parties, weddings, corporate events and other public and private gatherings inside or outsidie, Molyneux said.
Because a fryer isn’t involved, setting up inside a venue is easy, she said.
