The brand was acquired by Woworks last year — also the parent company of restaurant chains Saladworks, Barberitos and Fruta Bowls.

The new concept for Zoup will create “a fresher, more modern concept that fits the current environment,” Sioux Falls general manager David Suarez said.

“The new concept will still be a fast-casual restaurant with a new name and a refreshed menu. As far as menu offerings, it will be a mix of old and new. We will definitely still serve our customer favorites, so this is great news for fans of our soups.”

There are about 50 locations in the U.S. and Canada.

Zoup opened in Sioux Falls nearly a decade ago. Its lease is up in early 2024, and the plan is to move to a different location along with the new brand. A site hasn’t been chosen yet, and a mix of locations are being reviewed — along with gathering customer input, Suarez said.

“The layout will be slightly different from our current site,” he said. “We are looking at a smaller footprint that can well support foot traffic and delivery. We are also considering sites with a drive-up. Convenience and ease is a priority for the new site.”

The current space at 2802 W. 41st St. is for lease with Isaac Jorgensen of Bender Commercial Real Estate Services.

“We’ve had fantastic interest in the space in these first few weeks of being on the market,” he said. “Most interested parties have been food-related, with some retail users sprinkled in. Personally, I think it is a fantastic fit for a sub/sandwich shop or sushi spot. With its current layout, hood system already in place, on the corner of 41st and Kiwanis, and with thriving neighboring tenants, it’s a prime location for a new concept to prosper in.”

Zoup will remain open until it moves into a new space.

“We are so thankful for a wonderful 10 years warming up bellies and hearts with the Zoup brand,” Suarez said. “We are hoping that you will be as excited as we are for this new concept.”
