YMCA CEO resigns to focus on camp rebuilding
July 13, 2024
Sioux Falls Family YMCA CEO Mike Murphy has stepped down from the top leadership role to focus on rebuilding Camp Leif Ericson.
The longtime Sioux Falls camp was damaged heavily in June’s flooding. The YMCA recently announced it exceeded a $100,000 fundraising effort to help restore the camp so it can host campers yet this summer.
Director of development Kadyn Wittman will assume the role of interim CEO while the board conducts a national search for a new leader.
“The Sioux Falls YMCA is a great organization that has been serving individuals and families in the Sioux Falls area for over 100 years,” board chair Anshu Chandra said in a statement. “We are currently providing impactful programming and have a robust strategic plan to ensure the search for our next CEO will be a great success for the YMCA and the larger community.”
Murphy began working at Camp Leif Ericson as a teenager. He’s also a battalion chief with Sioux Falls Fire Rescue and has led the YMCA for the past five years.
