Twin Cities home and commercial interior designer Laurie McDowell Interior Design Firm is expanding to Sioux Falls.

McDowell learned about Sioux Falls from her husband, Bob Burns, who commutes to the city to practice law.

“I found out the potential there was great,” she said. “The town is just booming.”

McDowell’s portfolio includes a variety of residential projects, including 27 condominiums in the Westin Galleria project in Edina, Minn.

She was intrigued by the Washington Square condominium project in downtown Sioux Falls, she said.

“My big heart and love is in residential because it’s helping someone create their dream home,” she said.

She also works on commercial projects, including a spa in Aberdeen.

“I don’t like a particular style and don’t key in on a particular price point,” she said, adding her portfolio includes “modest projects and big projects” and clients “that go crazy over color and others that are quieter about it.”

She expects to mostly work from home or a hotel, depending where she’s at, but said she will commute to Sioux Falls to work with clients whenever needed.

“In this day and age, with technology, things are a lot easier,” she said. “I’ve actually done a couple condos in China and definitely around the country.”
