Tax partner, hockey coach builds career in hometown

March 29, 2022

This week’s Up-and-Comer is Elliot Hitt, tax partner at Eide Bailly.

Name: Elliot Hitt

Age: 36

Hometown:  Sioux Falls

What brought you to Sioux Falls?

My family moved to Sioux Falls from Grand Forks, North Dakota, when I was 5. I went to college at North Dakota State in Fargo and made the decision to move back home to start my career at Eide Bailly.

What keeps you in Sioux Falls?

My family, friends, career, and I love the community. Sioux Falls has lots of amenities that larger metro areas have, but we don’t have to sit in traffic for an hour to get to work or school. I am also excited to see how Sioux Falls continues to grow. I think we are doing a great job as a community of being able to provide opportunities to our citizens and businesses.

What’s your favorite thing about your job?

My favorite thing about my job is helping our clients with their business and financial goals.

How did you get connected to your industry?

My older brother is a tax accountant, and I was always good with numbers throughout school, so I gave accounting a shot in college and never looked back.

Describe your workplace in three words.

Culture, connected and passionate.

What is something someone might be surprised to learn about you?

I played high school hockey against a current NHL player and also played high school golf against a current PGA Tour player.

What’s your favorite way to give back to your community?

I love being involved with the Sioux Falls Youth Hockey Association. I have coached ever since my oldest son started playing. I also enjoy teaching JA (Junior Achievement) in the classroom.

What’s one business you’d like to see in Sioux Falls that isn’t here now?

Trader Joe’s.

Where do you see yourself in five years?

Serving our clients and helping Eide Bailly grow, so we can continue to provide opportunities for our team.
