The Sioux Falls metro area had the lowest unemployment rate in the nation for July – tying its record low at 1.4 percent.

South Dakota’s unemployment rate is so low it broke a national record, and Sioux Falls ranks among the lowest jobless rates for metropolitan areas in the U.S.

Only four metropolitan areas in the U.S. – all in New England — had a lower unemployment rate than Sioux Falls in May.

At 1.9 percent in April, South Dakota had the lowest unemployment rate in the United States for the second straight month.

At 1.9 percent, South Dakota had the lowest unemployment rate in the United States in March.

The unemployment rate for the Sioux Falls metro area rose to 2.3 percent in February.
