As the Sioux Falls business community grows, so does the need for support services like those offered by Boen & Associates.

Founded in 1969, the Sioux Falls firm provides a wide range of insurance and risk management solutions – and its own growth meant a need for additional space.

“The business community has been great. A lot of our customers in the last two or three years had their best years ever,” president Chad Dubisar said. “We were running out of space for Boen & Associates, so we decided to make a change.”

That led the 35-person firm from its office in central Sioux Falls to a new, 13,000-square-foot one on the south side of the city at 7119 S. Lyncrest Place.

“They’d been in their previous building a long time on a main floor and lower level, and the floor plan was very broken up,” said Mark Payne, account manager at Interstate Office Products, a longtime furniture provider for Boen.

“We wanted to help them create a new space for growth that would better meet their needs.”

Payne and Interstate Office Products interior designer Abby Tufvesson worked with Boen to plan how the firm would use part of the first and second floors of its new building, which includes a combination of workstations, private offices and client-facing areas.

“Interstate was a key factor in getting us to what we wanted to accomplish with our space,” Dubisar said. “Their input was really beneficial in helping us with design.”

The vision was “to keep it pretty modern and basic,” Dubisar said. “We kept it pretty conservative and didn’t want anything too extravagant, and they helped us make those selections.”

The floor plan for the space already had been established when Interstate Office began helping with furnishings, “and the individual offices were large, so there was plenty of room for storage,” Tufvesson said.

“A lot of them have an extra round table and four chairs, and they’re definitely large enough to accommodate all that.”

All workstations and offices include height-adjustable desks, and there are some extra desks to allow room for growth.

“They presented a lot of good options, and we’re definitely happy with it,” Dubisar said.

A conference room is designed mostly for internal use, while a large training room accommodates guests who come in from outside the firm to do needed training for insurance purposes.

“We did fixed, large tables in the conference rooms, with a bench in the back that can accommodate additional people,” Tufvesson said.

“They also have a first-floor lounge in the reception area, and then their second-floor break room opens down below, with a patio off the second floor, so it’s a nice variety of common areas.”

Boen was able to move in on time in November, and finishing touches wrapped up in subsequent weeks.

“It’s never easy, but they helped make it a fun process,” Dubisar said. “They’re very professional and top-notch, and do a great job. The communication was really solid, and the follow-up has been great. We’re very happy with it.”
