Restaurant Roundup: Thanksgiving meal on pizza, broasted turkeys, Boss’ sandwiches, new menus

Nov. 11, 2021

We found a couple of unusual Thanskgiving-style meals. Papa Woody’s Wood-Fired Pizza has created The Gobbler. It’s mashed potatoes, pulled turkey, corn, turkey gravy, stuffing and cheese on a pizza crust.

At Crooked Pint Ale House, there’s a Cornucopia Lucy. The cheese-stuffed burger is topped with thick-sliced turkey, a heap of mashed potatoes, bourbon-soaked cranberries and gravy.

This is the first Thanksgiving since Cluckin’ Good Chicken & BBQ scaled back operations to catering and Saturday supper-hour takeout, but owners Ben and Jona Weiland will be selling their traditional broasted turkeys. They’re taking pre-orders by phone at 605-951-8555. Get a turkey – approximately 16 pounds – for $70 or a meal with six quarts of side dishes and a dozen dinner rolls for $130.

Last year because of the pandemic, Josiah’s Coffeehouse, Cafe & Bakery started selling take-and-bake egg bakes and cinnamon or caramel rolls. They’re back for Thanksgiving in a limited amount. Call 605-759-8255 or send an email to [email protected] by Nov. 18. Pies and cheesecakes also are available.

DaDa Gastropub will be open from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday for a special Friendsgiving brunch. Get a free drink ticket for a future visit by bringing three nonperishable items that will be given to Feeding South Dakota. Make reservations here.

Boss’ Pizza & Chicken has added sandwiches. There’s an Italian, Philly, Chicken Bacon Ranch, Buffalo Chicken, Clutch Chuck in spicy or regular, Meatball, Cuban and the Founding Father, which was inspired by the pizza that started it all. It’s loaded with pepperoni, Canadian bacon, beef, mozzarella cheese blend, red pepper, ranch dressing, lettuce and tomato.

The features for November at Granite City Food & Brewery were concocted by local team members. The Asian Chicken Sandwich features a grilled chicken breast with teriyaki marinade, Asian slaw and pepperjack cheese. It’s drizzled with peanut sauce and garnished with wontons, red pepper and green onion. The Wake N’ Shake Martini has a vanilla vodka base infused with amaretto, peach schnapps and orange juice.

The kitchen is closed on Mondays at Obscure Brewing Co., so the team has turned it into soup night. Offerings, which are creations from the staff, will rotate. Soup night kicked off this week with chicken and rice soup from head brewer Mike Nussbaum. Next week, it’s a beer cheese soup featuring Obscure’s SoDak Kolsch and house-made croutons. The following week will be French onion.

Fall features have arrived at McNally’s Irish Pub. Offerings include a roasted beets and orange salad, carne asada tacos with a Korean/Brazilian twist, wild mushroom risotto with chicken and another Brazilian offering, picanha steak with roasted jalapeno chimichurri.

Tavern 180 has several new menu items ranging from staples such as tomato basil soup, chislic and a New York strip to a twist on a BLT. The JBLT features jalapeno bacon, heirloom tomato, iceberg lettuce and mayor on toasted sourdough. The new 180 Bleu Burger tops a patty with swiss cheese, caramelized onions, blue cheese crumbles, greens, balsamic glaze and chipotle aioli on a brioche bun.

Breadico has expanded its grocery offerings to include dairy products. The bakery is stocking imported soft cheeses to pair with its breads, hard-to-find buffalo mozzarella to make pizzas at home, local eggs from Fruit of the Coop and Stensland Family Farms milk. Breadico also has started taking orders for its special holiday breads, which will be available Nov. 19-27. A limited number of loaves also will be available in the store.

As Wine Time on Main sells out its wine inventory and glassware as it prepares to close, it has scheduled two final wine events. Nov. 16 will offer an Old World versus New World comparison. Dec. 8 there will be champagne tasting on the eighth floor of Washington Square. Email [email protected] to register.

LaDelle and Fourth Coffeehouse is offering a free drink as part of a food drive during the Dell Rapids Downtown Open House. Through Saturday, bring in five nonperishable food items or bath and household products, and items will be donated to Daily Bread Food Pantry. It’s also offering its take-and-bake cinnamon roll kit for Thanksgiving. Order by Nov. 22 for pickup Nov. 24.
