Restaurant Roundup: New pizza lunch hours, summer cocktails, farmers market

June 10, 2021

Pizza Di Paolo is adding lunch. The restaurant will open at 11 a.m. Tuesday through Saturday beginning next week. In addition to whole pies, slices will be available.

Hang out Saturday at Look’s Marketplace, and celebrate National Rosé Day. Taste six rosés from around the world, eat house-made rosé sausage. Try the rosé spritz, with sparkling rosé, St. Germain, Peychaud’s bitters and a lemon wheel. Not a fan of wine? Try Look’s Brewing’s Botched Strawberry Hibiscus Sour. The party is from 1 to 5 p.m.

The new Gist Wine Shop also is having a rosé tasting. Sample eight wines for $15 from 2 to 8 p.m. Saturday.

PAve has a new patio drink menu with eight fruity flavors perfect for a hot summer day. No shortage of those around here! Here’s a description of the Blackstreet: Smirnoff vodka, Torani blackberry, lemon juice, ginger beer, honey and blackberries.

Summer garden cocktails are on the menu at McNally’s Irish Pub. Among the eight choices are cucumber basil lemonade and the watermelon colada mojito.

The Breaks Coffee Roasting Co. has partnered with Sioux Falls Pride on one of its featured drinks for June. A dollar from each sale of Rainbow Road will go to the Standing Proud scholarship fund. The drink has homemade coconut jellies, local honey, Roy G. Biv tea from The Spice & Tea Exchange infused with edible glitter and topped with ice and guava LaCroix. It’s available until the next First Friday.

The Lake Lorraine Farmers Market kicks off tonight with 16 vendors. The market is open from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursdays into October. Produce and other items are in the parking lot south of Hobby Lobby. Learn more about the vendors and their products here.

Sunny’s Pizzeria is having a contest to find a local artist to paint a mural on the north side of the building at 26th and Walts. Owner Jonathan Oppold is looking for an “interactive” mural that fits the theme of “you can make it in Sioux Falls.” The artist will receive a $1,000 commission, and Sunny’s will pay for the paint. The deadline to apply is July 4. Get details here.

Taco John’s is putting a spin on the chicken sandwich wars with new fried chicken tacos. Try them with chipotle lime sauce or jalapeno ranch.

If you haven’t had a chance to try Fernson’s Black Cherry Skip Day yet, head to the Great Plains Zoo on Wednesday for Rhinopalooza. The party is from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Rare Rhinos of Africa exhibit. Activities include a black rhino training display, a zookeeper chat and information about black rhino conservation efforts. Tickets are $15 and include heavy appetizers from Hy-Vee. There will be a cash bar. A portion of Black Cherry Skip Day sales go to GPZ’s black rhino conservation efforts. Buy tickets and get more details here.

Buffalo Ridge Brewing Project in Hartford has added Sunday hours for the first time since opening in late 2018. The brewery will be open from 1 to 5 p.m.

“O” So Good in Garretson is no longer requiring reservations for dinner, but they’re still recommended. “We definitely need to have our bigger crowds back,” owner Omar Thornton said in a Facebook post. “Going to reservations-only did hurt the flow, but it was a decision that needed to be made to bring back quality to our food and to our performance.” Thornton said the restaurant’s new general manager is helping overall operations, and he also has hired a new head chef — not Guy Fieri, though, pictured below with Thornton and his wife while the celebrity chef was there for “Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives.”

On the Hook Fish & Chips fans: The traveling food truck will be in the Tractor Supply Co. parking lot on North Cliff Avenue from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday.
