Restaurant Roundup: New acai bowls, food truck updates

Crisp & Green has added acai bowls to its lineup. Customers can build their own or pick one of six choices: Acai Ya Later, which is loaded with fruit; Protein Power Play featuring protein puffs and cashew butter; Imagine Dragon Fruit with dragon fruit sorbet; It’s Crunch Time with granola, toasted coconut and hemp hearts; Gimme S’More with cacao nibs and vegan marshmallows; and Two to Mango with mango and acai sorbets.

This is the last season for Front Porch Concessions owners Steve and Marilyn Konda. They started the mobile food stand 19 years ago and upgraded last year to a new trailer but have decided to retire. The sale of the business is expected to close next week, with the new owners taking over Aug. 1, Marilyn Konda said. They’ll work alongside the new owners for the rest of the season, she said. Front Porch’s signature item is Taco in the Tub, which the couple trademarked. It’s a 32-ounce deli container filled with taco fixings.

Cheezy Noodlez Gourmet Mac & Cheese has started operations. The food truck owned by Jessica Eck and her husband, Johnny Than, made its debut June 15 at 605 Antiques and has been busy since then serving lunch at parking lots across town. Customers can find the trailer from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at 605 Antiques. The couple posts their schedule at the beginning of the week on the Cheezy Noodlez Facebook page.

New food truck to feature gourmet mac-and-cheese

Carpenter Bar is adding shrimp cocktail to its usual fresh oyster lineup for the final Friday of the month summertime event.

Ready for some summer sippers? Chasers at 12th and Ellis has a new drink menu with spiked lemonades, an apple mule, gin cooler and a cherry-flavored mojito.

Sanaa’s 8th Street Gourmet is serving a fundraising lunch Saturday for Feeding South Dakota. Owner Sanaa Abourezk is offering the meal in memory of her mother, who died from COVID a couple of months ago in Syria. “In our tradition, after 40 days of passing, the family has a celebration of life, and they invite everybody for a meal — friend, stranger, anybody can come,” she said in a post on social media. Abourezk will donate the entire proceeds from the buffet to the organization. Serving is from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. A minimum donation of $15 per person is requested.

CNC Food Factory, which is located in the Avera Fitness Center, is now providing its baked doughnuts, muffins and desserts in the main cafeteria and Caribou Coffee kiosk at Avera McKennan Hospital & University Center.

Samurai Tasteas on Sertoma near 41st is offering 15 percent off appetizers and dinner entrees through July.

Changes in hours, service

Lunch hours have returned to Godfather’s Pizza. The restaurant on West 41st Street opens at 11 a.m. daily. It closes at 8 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and at 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Covert Artisan Ales & Cellars has tweaked its Sunday hours to 2 to 8 p.m. and will start showing a movie every week at 6 p.m.

Last week, we missed Auntie J’s American Soul Food’s final update to its change in hours. The Lennox restaurant has switched from supper to breakfast and lunch hours. It’s open from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, offering brunch with a soul food twist. Stop by for brunch on the second Sunday of the month from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Owner Joni Williamson is doing events and catering jobs with her barbecue and soul food menu.

The Dell Rapids bowling alley Pinz and its cafe are closing for the summer. Sunday is the last day. It will reopen Sept. 6.

Sassy Cakes by Ashly, which has been selling baked goods at Stacy’s Vintage-Art-Boutique near the Tea exit, is taking the summer off but plans to be back in the fall. Beginning today, everything has been marked down to $2 until it’s gone.
