May 6, 2021

Severance Brewing Co. is celebrating American Craft Beer Week with a wings and beer pairing at 6 p.m. Wednesday. Future neighbor Papa Woody’s Wood Fired Pizza is making the jumbo wings in four flavors: BBQ, Buffalo, garlic parmesan and Asian sweet chili, and each will be paired with a Severance brew. Each order comes with a side of fries, dipping sauce and veggies. Only 20 tickets are available. Buy one here.

Fat Kid Filly’s used its one-year anniversary to announce that it’s adding a fifth location. Find its “Filly” cheesesteaks and other offerings at stand in the Birdcage for all Sioux Falls Canaries games this season. Cody Sauers started Fat Kid as a food truck and then added a stand at the Premier Center. This year, he started serving food out of the kitchen at Bushwhackers Bar & Grill in Canton and added a second food truck, which made its debut Saturday. Hours in Canton for this month are 6 to 9 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. Here’s the new menu for Bushwhackers.

To celebrate nurses during Nurse Appreciation Week, Juice Stop and Vern Eide Gives are treating them to a free smoothie from 1 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Minnesota Avenue location only.

Tropical Sno is treating moms to a free Hawaiian shave ice Sunday. Hours are noon to 8 p.m. The trailer is in the parking lot of Suburban Lanes at 35th and Spring. The Source Roastery + Taproom is giving moms a free drip coffee Sunday. It’s open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at 421 N. Phillips Ave.

National food challenger Randy Santel will be at Urban Chislic on Monday to take on the Gorilla Dumpster – 6.5 pounds of beef, chicken, pork and lamb chislic with kettle chips, cheese curds and fries. The restaurant is having a watch party and taking reservations at [email protected]. The event starts at 4 p.m., and the challenge starts at 6 p.m.

Sub Zero Desserts has added edible cookie dough to the menu. Choose from birthday cake, chocolate chunk, Reese’s and brownie with Hershey’s Mini Kisses. They’re also stocked in the freezer with other Sub Zero treats at Chef Ellen.

Slim Chickens has added milkshakes. They’re hand-spun and come in four flavors: vanilla, chocolate, strawberry or Oreo.

May’s featured pizza at Monks Ale House is Get Figgy With It. The pizza is topped with mozzarella, bacon, caramelized onions, goat cheese, arugula and, of course, figs. And, starting Monday for American Craft Beer Week, all 50 taps at Monks will be South Dakota beers.

JL Beers on Western Avenue is celebrating 31 Days of Surly. A new keg of Surly Brewing Co. beer will be tapped every day this month. Many of them are taproom-only beers and a few are cellared kegs.

Obscure Brewing Co. and WoodGrain Brewing Co. have released Gjedi Master, a tribute to craft beer enthusiast Tim Gjoraas, who died in January. The American West Coast IPA was tapped on April 29, which would have been the former Washington High School teacher’s 46th birthday. It’s available on tap and in four-pack cans at both breweries. A portion of sales will be donated to cancer research.

Covert Artisan Ales & Cellars has expanded its hours: 3 to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, 3 to 10 p.m. Friday, noon to 10 p.m. Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday. As part of American Craft Beer Week, the brewery is releasing Bang! Bang! Bang! at 3 p.m. Tuesday. It’s a mixed-fermentation ale conditioned on peaches and apricots that was aged in gin barrels, blended and refermented with more apricots.

Bike Nights at Red Rock Bar & Grill east of Sioux Falls start Wednesday. Each week features a food truck and live music. Ledfoot will kick off the fun at 6 p.m., and Papa Woody’s Wood Fired Pizza will be there. The bar is roasting up a couple of alligators too. A progressive 50/50 pot is back, and the bar is raffling off a 2022 Indian Motorcycle, with proceeds benefiting the Children’s Home Society of South Dakota.

Because of staffing issues, “O” So Good in Garretson has cut back its lunch hours to Saturdays only from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dinner hours are 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, and reservations are required. The restaurant, however, will be open on Mother’s Day and Father’s Day. Omar Thornton is looking for a lead chef, sous chef and line cook. He has hired a manager and quality adviser to help deal with service issues, some of which are related to a bump in traffic from the restaurant’s appearance earlier this year on “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.”

LaDelle and Fourth Coffeehouse has decided to stop serving lunch and specials as of May 14. The menu will be limited to coffee, breakfast and treats. “This was a very hard decision because we have a soft spot for our daily specials, but we do feel like this change will be good for everyone,” Aaron and Amie Delgado said in a post shared on social media. “We are super excited to fine tune, and continue to strive for the best product and service we can share with you.”

Squealer’s Smoke Shack in Tea has put its weekend breakfast on a summer break. The restaurant will open at 11 a.m. Saturdays and Sundays.
