June 27, 2023

This week’s Up-and-Comer is Paige Krumwiede, project manager at The Sampson House.

Name: Paige Krumwiede

Age: 32

Hometown: Brandon

What brought you to Sioux Falls?

After spending some time in Phoenix and Minneapolis — both cities I adore — I knew it was time to get back home and closer to family and friends, especially as I started thinking about starting a family of my own.

What keeps you in Sioux Falls?

The people here are incredibly friendly and welcoming, which makes it easy to build a sense of community. Additionally, Sioux Falls offers many of the conveniences of a larger city such as shopping, dining and entertainment options, while still maintaining a laid-back and relaxed vibe. The downtown area is particularly exciting with new restaurants, bars and shops popping up all the time. Lastly, being able to have my family and friends close by is invaluable to me, and it’s one of the main reasons I continue to call Sioux Falls home.

What’s your favorite thing about your job?

One of the things I enjoy most about my job is the opportunity to express my creative freedoms. As a project manager, I am responsible for overseeing the entire project life cycle from start to finish. This involves collaborating with team members, developing project plans and making critical decisions that impact the success of the project. With this level of responsibility, I have the opportunity to bring my own creative ideas to the table and implement them in ways that benefit the project and the organization as a whole.

Another aspect of my job that I really appreciate is the fact that every day is different in terms of the variety of work I get to do. I could be working on multiple projects at once, each with its own unique set of challenges and objectives. This means that I am constantly learning and adapting to new situations, which keeps my job interesting and exciting.

Lastly, as someone who is obsessed with detail and organization, a project manager position is the perfect fit for me. This role requires a high level of attention to detail and the ability to keep track of multiple moving parts. I take pride in my ability to organize information and communicate effectively with team members to ensure that everyone is on the same page.

How did you get connected to your industry?

I like to think I’ve always had a creative side and a passion for marketing, but I was able to officially put that to use in college with my marketing minor and hone in on what specific aspects of marketing I enjoyed most. A few internships later and I felt validated in my decision to pursue a career in the industry. I love that it’s an ever-evolving field. Keeps me on my toes and always learning!

Describe The Sampson House in three words.

Aesthetically pleasing, modern, consistent.

What’s your favorite way to give back to your community?

I enjoy giving back to my community by volunteering my time and efforts to organizations that align with my values and interests. Whether it’s through serving meals at a local food bank or donating resources or money to a cause I believe in, I find that giving back in a hands-on way is very rewarding. Supporting local businesses is another way I feel is important to help the community succeed.

What’s one business you’d like to see in Sioux Falls that isn’t here now?

I would love to see Sioux Falls get a Roti Modern Mediterranean restaurant. Roti is known for its delicious Mediterranean-inspired menu that includes items like build-your-own bowls, salads, sandwiches and wraps. It’s one of the things I miss most about Minneapolis. 😉

Where do you see yourself in five years?

I see myself continuing to grow and excel in my role as a project manager at The Sampson House. I am passionate about this field and believe that there is always room for growth and development, so I plan on continuing to expand my knowledge and skills in the industry. I would also like to become more involved in the community and give back through volunteering and other community activities.
