Lyft approves Sioux Falls driver

He can’t start yet and isn’t planning to drive permanently, but Lyft has at least one approved driver in Sioux Falls.

Greg LaFollette

Greg LaFollette, a consultant and speaker in technology and accounting, helped encourage city leaders to work through the process that brought the ride-sharing business to town.

To find out what it took to become a driver, he tried it himself.

“It’s very thorough,” he said. “I did it because I wanted to speak from experience.”

He went through a background check earlier this week and submitted photos of his car and insurance.

He learned today that he had been cleared to drive.

First, though, Lyft will have to become licensed to operate in the city. That paperwork hasn’t been finished yet. From there, Lyft hasn’t given city leaders a sense of how long it will take for operations to start.

LaFollette, though, has his first and only passenger in mind.

“I’ll take one ride if (Mayor Mike) Huether is the passenger,” he said.
