Local appliance business adds second location

Oct. 30, 2023

Less than five years after 247 Sales & Service opened its first location near 12th Street and Valley View Road, its husband-and-wife owners are preparing to open a second store.

The second location will be near 10th Street and Sycamore Avenue, said Nicky Gukeisen, who co-owns the store with her husband, Anthony Chabane.

The appliance store at 6204 W. 12th St. opened in April 2019. The new location at 300 S. Sycamore Ave. will open Wednesday.

247 is an appliance store like big-box retailers, but it offers what Gukeisen calls better pricing and “a whole lot of customer service.”

“We’re just a mom-and-pop store, so I’m able to lower my prices to make it more affordable to customers. And they aren’t just a number but an actual person to us. We intend to make friends with every customer that walks through the door.”

Gukeisen had been employed with Avera Health for 20 years when, more than five years ago, Chabane came home from his job with a surprise. He had filled the shop behind their house with appliances that he intended her to sell.

“I knew she was a natural,” he said.

Gukeisen sold the first group of appliances, then continued with the next load, then a third one, then four, five, six and seven. At that point, Chabane said they were taking up too much room in the shop, and the couple found their first location.

“The first six months, we worked our full-time jobs, then came to the store and would be open at night,” Gukeisen said. “In December of 2019, I ended up retiring from Avera and going here full time. He joined me in February. We have not looked back.”

247 Sales & Service offers brand-new appliances and brand-new “scratch and dent” appliances. Brands include LG, GE, Frigidaire, Samsung and ZLINE, a luxury brand designed in the United States and shipped from Nevada.

“Their tagline is affordable luxury,” Gukeisen said.

247 sells washers, dryers, refrigerators, stoves, microwaves, dishwashers, wall ovens, cooktops, ice machines, mini fridges and drawer microwaves, which just came out in the past year or two, Gukeisen said. The business features deliveries with installation or garage drops and light appliance repair.

The 12th Street store occupies 8,000 square feet, with 3,000 square feet in the new location, which is across the street from a city fire station.

“We knew we wanted to get to the east side where we knew we could make a presence,” Gukeisen said. “It’s a nice location.”

The stores will share the same hours: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

Gukeisen is proud of what she started from that initial load of appliances.

“It’s a woman-run, woman-owned company,” she said. “It’s a mom-and-pop shop with a strong woman presence.”
