J.H. Larson doubles warehouse size in new location

Aug. 28, 2019

J.H. Larson Co. has moved its Sioux Falls branch to 1201 W. 51st St. and effectively doubled its warehouse space.

The Minnesota-based company had been operating out of its 3501 S. Phillips Ave. location since 1983. It’s a family-owned, independent distributor of electrical, plumbing, HVAC and DataComm products, with eight locations in Minnesota, Wisconsin and South Dakota.

The Sioux Falls location has 21 employees who are eager to take advantage of the opportunities the bigger space can offer, branch manager Mike Sprang said.

“I think it helps our ability to be more efficient because it’s really about our customers for us, and we need to be able to serve them the way that they need to be served,” he said. “Not like we haven’t done that before, but it’s important that we keep ahead.”

The new building includes separate conference spaces and a training room, which the company did not have before.

“In the old place, we had a conference room, training room and lunchroom all in one,” Sprang said.

Sprang said that as the industry changes, including workforce development and technology advancements, the needs of J.H. Larson’s customers expand, and the company has done its best to accommodate those changes.

J.H. Larson has sold materials used for some of the biggest projects in Sioux Falls, including the Denny Sanford Premier Center, Washington Pavilion, Citibank and Levitt at the Falls.

The company also owns Pahl’s Designer Showrooms at 2320 S. Marion Rd., which handles decorative lighting and plumbing needs.
