Giving Back for April

April 29, 2022

Giving Back recognizes businesses and organizations that are helping our communities. Here’s a look at who gave back for April.

Sioux Falls Area Community Foundation

The Sioux Falls Area Community Foundation has awarded grants for the first quarter of the year to six local nonprofits. The grants were made possible through the Community Fund, which is supported by unrestricted gifts from donors who entrust the foundation to award grants based on community needs and opportunities. Receiving awards were Call to Freedom, Chess4Life, Faith Through Frames, Hazard Film Project, Indian Education Parent Committee and South Dakota News Watch.

Hy-Vee, Hormel Foods

As part of its annual Hams for the Holidays campaign with Hormel Foods, Hy-Vee employees and local first responders distributed 300 Hormel Cure 81 hams to families in need April 14 at the W.H. Lyon Fairgrounds. In the campaign’s fifth year, Hy-Vee delivered a total of 7,400 hams at 19 stops across 10 states to help provide hunger relief in communities served by Hy-Vee stores.

Hy-Vee

Hy-Vee has launched a fundraiser aimed at supporting local food banks across its eight-state region, including Feeding South Dakota. All funds raised will provide immediate assistance to families in need and support the increased demand for food following recent reductions in Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, benefits. Food Bank Fridays invites customers to make a $1 or $5 donation every day at their local Hy-Vee or Dollar Fresh Market store to help feed local families in need. On Fridays, Hy-Vee’s social media pages highlight how the donations are making a difference.
