Giving Back for April

April 30, 2021

Giving Back recognizes businesses and organizations that are helping our communities. Here’s a look at who gave back for April.

POET

More than 90 POET team members and their families celebrated Earth Day by cleaning up Sioux Falls parks April 16. They collected over 1,900 pounds of trash and recyclables along the Big Sioux River. Team members at POET’s 27 bioprocessing facilities also were encouraged to celebrate Earth Day through community cleanups, recycling drives or other acts of environmental stewardship.

Sioux Falls Area Community Foundation

The Sioux Falls Area Community Foundation has awarded $152,000 in grants to 11 area nonprofits for the first quarter of the year. The grants were made possible thanks to the Community Fund, an endowment supported by local donors. Recipients were The Compass Center, EcoSun Prairie Farm, Faith Through Frames, Hurdle Life Foundation, Levitt at the Falls, Lost&Found, Sioux Empire Community Theatre, Sioux Falls Arts Council, Sioux Falls Hope Coalition, Sioux Falls State and the Southeast Tech Foundation.

One of the grants approved by the Sioux Falls Area Community Foundation will support an effort to establish a tall grass prairie on 106 acres of former farmland near the southwestern edge of Good Earth State Park.

Furniture Mart USA

Customers at Furniture Mart, Unclaimed Freight Furniture and Ashley HomeStore donated more than 3 tons of food and almost $92,000 in March as part of the Hunger Relief Campaign. Furniture Mart USA stores in six states offered a 10 percent discount with a donation of $20 or 10 nonperishable food items. In Sioux Falls, 155 pounds of food and more than $7,800 was collected. The donations will be shared with organizations that help feed the hungry.

Insight Marketing Design

Insight Marketing Design celebrated 18 years in business with 18 donations to 17 charities. Each staff member at the advertising agency picked a charity to receive a $100 donation.

Mud Mile Communications

Mud Mile Communications is giving away 50 Washington Pavilion memberships to families. The initiative, called Make Some Happy, is taking nominations through April 30. Winners will be announced May 20.
