The Employee Comms & Culture Flyover Festival is organized by ICology, a membership-based community for people who work in internal communications.

“If you care about employee engagement and are responsible for any part of employee communications at your organization, this event is for you,” said Kristin Hancock, vice president, community and engagement at ICology.

The event will be from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sept. 13 at the Washington Pavilion.

“Every session at our event is focused on a different aspect of employee communications and will have tangible takeaways: worksheets, templates and best practices, to name a few,” Hancock said. “Everything ties back to company culture and how we can make workplaces healthier and happier for employees.”

Speakers were hand-selected from a group of ICology members with expertise in their topics and enthusiasm for improving workplace culture.

“It’s been really fun getting creative with all of them and tying the air travel theme of the event into their topics,” Hancock said. “There is a great mix of local communicators and first-time visitors to Sioux Falls.”

Topics include “Communicating the Tough Stuff,” “Using Technology To Engage and Inspire,” “Your Role in the Merger and Acquisition Journey” and “Flying High With Audience-First Communication.”

ICology offers networking, education, career support and all-around cheerleading, Hancock said.

“This year, we started hosting events across North America with the goal of creating the most-fun professional development sessions you’ve ever experienced and bringing people together to high-five and solve problems,” she said.

“There is so much to discover in places like Sioux Falls, so when two of our members approached me about hosting an event here, I was immediately interested.”

A native of Manitoba, Canada, who now lives in Indianapolis, “I have a lot of love for the part of America that some refer to as the ‘flyover states,’” Hancock added.

“I would love for this to become an annual event! The more support we have for this year’s event, the more likely that is to happen.”
