Are you feeling a little “fall fatigue” or otherwise dealing with a lack of energy or even pain? You could start feeling better in a matter of minutes after committing to red light therapy.

“What I love about red light therapy is that it’s noninvasive, drug-free and without negative side effects,” owner Lori Meyer said.

“Oftentimes, when a client begins their treatments, they will see positive side effects, such as improved skin tone or more energy, in addition to what they came in for. It covers such a broad range of benefits, and I’ve seen it improve the quality of life for so many clients.”

We sat down with Meyer to learn more about how red light therapy works and what you can expect.

If someone is new to red light therapy, what should they expect?

The first thing we do when a client is interested in red light therapy  is schedule a consultation. We want to make sure they don’t have any contraindications that would interfere with doing the treatments, and we also want to understand their goals so we can customize a treatment plan to provide them with the best results. Most treatments are only 10 or 15 minutes long, and a person may only need to do two to three treatments a week in the beginning, so it’s easy to fit into a busy schedule. Our bed is zero-gravity and has a vibration massage built in, making it a very comfortable experience.

What exactly does red light therapy do for us? What are some of the biggest reasons someone might try it?

Decades ago, we spent more time outdoors and received natural sun exposure. Today, we spend most of our time indoors, and we are exposed to blue lights from our phones and computers. The lack of sunlight and excessive exposure to blue light can be detrimental to our health. Red light therapy works at the cellular level. It stimulates our mitochondria and releases adenosine triphosphate, which is the energy of the cell. RLT is a great way to receive the benefits of the sun without the harmful UV rays. Many of our clients come in with a goal of pain relief, reducing inflammation, fat loss or anti-aging. These are the most common health issues we see, but the list of benefits that can be received from RLT is extensive.

So about metabolism. Can red light therapy actually help with weight loss?

I like to refer to it as inch loss or fat loss, but yes, red light therapy can help. Stubborn fat can be difficult to lose for a couple of reasons. Stubborn fat has poor blood circulation, which makes it difficult for the fat cells to release their fats into the bloodstream. In addition, the receptors in fat cells cause them to become resistant to releasing fat. Red light increases circulation and can stimulate the release of fatty acids from fat tissue so the fat can come off your body. To get the best results, it’s beneficial to do red light treatments in a fasted state or do some high-intensity interval training after your RLT session and, of course, maintaining a healthy lifestyle is key.

What about overall “fall fatigue,” or even allergy issues? Can it help with that?

Due to colder weather and lack of sunlight, many people experience lower energy levels than usual in the fall. Many of our clients not only experience more energy, but also better sleep after a red light treatment. Our red light bed can help relieve congestion due to allergies with the massage frequency in the bed that boosts lymphatic drainage. Many clients will come in and do a red light treatment and a halotherapy — dry salt therapy — treatment back to back. The salt has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties to open up the airways and release toxins. The combination of these two treatments can help alleviate allergy symptoms. Getting a jump-start with these therapies before allergy season can reduce suffering even more by being proactive.

What kinds of experiences have clients reported with red light therapy?

Clients have experienced a myriad of benefits, including improvement in arthritis, increased mobility, pain relief, inch loss, better skin tone and reduced cellulite. We’ve even had several clients mention that it’s helped with constipation. We have clients that have been able to reduce medications for hypothyroidism. There have been studies showing that RLT can increase thyroid production and, therefore, slow the progression of hypothyroidism or potentially reverse it. That is so powerful!

What if people aren’t sure about investing in a package? Can they try it once and see a difference? Or why should they commit to multiple sessions?

RLT is like a workout. You wouldn’t expect to see results after one workout. Clients can try RLT for $50 prior to purchasing a package. Once they experience it, they’re hooked. While we wouldn’t expect clients to see improvements after just one treatment, it can happen. I had been dealing with golfer’s elbow for six to nine months. I experienced pain relief halfway through my first RLT treatment. The pain would come and go at the beginning of my treatment plan. I continued with a series of 24 treatments and occasional maintenance, and my elbow is still pain-free today.

Reach out to The Sauna Haus today to take advantage of savings this month!  For all of October, take 40 percent off any RLT package.
