Empire Place opens facial bar, nail salon as interest grows from more businesses

Dec. 27, 2021

A business specializing in facials is the latest to open at Empire Place.

Face Foundrie expanded to Sioux Falls from its headquarters in the Twin Cities.

“We do everything face: eyebrows, lash extensions, focus facials and other enhancements,” said Sherri Kanzenbach, who is the local franchise owner with her husband, Todd.

They live near Mankato, Minnesota, but met while living in Sioux Falls working in health care more than 20 years ago.

Their daughter, Ally, is managing the Sioux Falls location and preparing to open her own franchise in Denver.

“She came from (Face Foundrie) corporate and is the one who introduced us to the whole concept, and it’s been a joy having her there,” Kanzenbach said. “So it’s been a good adventure for all of us.”

Their 1,800-square-foot space was designed with a “simple, modern, airy look,” she added.

There are six 40-minute facials, each offering different approaches. Enhancements include derma planing, chemical peels, collagen masks, facial cupping and scalp massage.

“Our concept is affordable, approachable and accessible,” Kanzenbach said.

Appointments can be scheduled or done on a walk-in basis. There’s also a membership option. Hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.

The business is the latest opening for Empire Place, which is a new retail center in front of The Empire Mall that has brought the city’s most high-profile retail openings of the year.

Tenants include Chipotle, Chick-fil-A and Chase Bank on stand-alone lots along West 41st Street.

With the retail centers, Buff City Soap, Crumbl Cookies, Glamour Nails and A Good Feet Store have opened.

“We’re hearing really positive feedback from all the tenants that have opened so far at Empire Place,” said Raquel Blount of Lloyd Cos., who represents the property. “We started so strong on the food and beverage side, and that momentum has continued into retail and personal services.”

Early 2022 will bring more openings, including European Wax Center, Nautical Bowls, Pizza Shop and Verizon Wireless.

“It will be very exciting,” Kanzenbach said. “It’s the same clientele you’re all trying to attract, so it’s very fun.”

Two more retail centers are coming to the property next year, which will mirror the existing strip malls.

“We’re starting to experience a lot of interest from our next wave of tenants, so we don’t think it will be long before we have more announcements at Empire Place,” Blount said.
