If you’ve considered LASIK, you probably already know it’s an elective procedure, which means it’s an investment you make in yourself.

But did you know your health savings account or flexible spending account can help cover the cost? Did you also know Vance Thompson Vision believes finances should not stand in the way of clear vision, so we offer interest-free financing options? Many of Vance Thompson Vision’s patients have used their HSA/FSA or one of our financing options to get the vision correction they’ve dreamed of.

It all starts with a free advanced diagnostic consultation. This first step determines if you’re a candidate for LASIK or if you’re better suited for one of our other vision correction procedures. Our surgeons utilize the world’s most advanced technology to give our patients the best vision possible.

Until you get that consultation scheduled, here are answers to common LASIK questions.

Is LASIK permanent?

The results of LASIK are permanent, but occasionally nearsightedness, farsightedness or astigmatism can return because of changes in the lens of the eye. In these cases, your primary eye care doctor will refer you back to the specialists at Vance Thompson Vision, where they can determine the best course of action.

What is recovery like?

After the topical anesthesia wears off, most patients experience burning, tearing and light sensitivity for two to four hours. Generally, patients can see immediately after surgery, and their vision improves with every passing hour. Most patients can even return to work the next day. Avoiding swimming, eye makeup and eye rubbing is important.

Can those with astigmatism have LASIK?

Yes, they can. Patients with mild to moderate astigmatism usually are candidates for LASIK. In fact, LASIK corrects astigmatism because it gently reshapes the cornea so that light refracts onto the retina in an optimal place.

Will I be awake during the procedure?

Yes. We offer a mild sedative to alleviate anxiety during the procedure; however, this is optional.
