Here’s a look at recent changes in the business landscape in the Sioux Falls area.

247 Sales & Service has opened a second location. The locally owned appliance store’s newest site is at 300 S. Sycamore Ave. It offers new brand-name appliances, installation and some repair services. Nicky Gukeisen and Anthony Chabane opened the first store in 2019 at 6204 W. 12th St.

The Subway location at 3500 S. Minnesota Ave. has closed. The franchisee plans to relocate it but hasn’t announced where it will be.

Mapleton Golf Club has started grading work for the 18-hole private course northeast of Sioux Falls. The ownership group hopes to route three or four golf holes while the weather holds, resuming work on the course and starting on the facilities in the spring.

Remedy Brewing Co. is adding pickleball courts to its downtown site at 8th & Railroad Center. The Pickle Pub will be in a warehouse next to the back patio. It will have four regulation-size courts that can be reserved online and offer other games like shuffleboard and bean bags. Players will order food and drink from the taproom and take it over to the courts. The hope is to open the courts by the end of the year.

National retailer Five Below has opened its first Sioux Falls store. The location at Lake Lorraine is next to Hobby Lobby and offers a wide variety of merchandise for $5 or less. It’s open daily.

It’s official: Cherry Creek Grill isn’t reopening. The building at 3104 E. 26th St. has been listed for sale. The restaurant closed in September 2022 after a fire broke out during renovation work. Charlie and Judy Kneip, who also own TC’s Referee Sports Bar & Grill, are selling the property and the restaurant’s liquor license.

A business designed to deliver a speedy oil change while customers stay in their vehicles is opening in Sioux Falls. Take 5 Oil Change is under construction on East 10th Street between Taco John’s and Caribou Coffee. The franchised location will open later this year or early next year depending on the weather.

Parlour Ice Cream House has been acquired by Washington Pavilion Management Inc. The location at 340 S. Main Ave. is closed, and the ice cream shop will reopen in the Pavilion across the street. It will be renamed Parlour House and will be in the second-floor concessions space, which will be remodeled in December.

Crunch Fitness will open Nov. 30 in the former Gordmans building on the campus of The Empire Mall. The 60,000-square-foot space includes cardio equipment, a large free-weight section, classes, multiple turf areas, hydromassage, HIITZone, boxing, UV tanning and a babysitting area. The national fitness company offers a range of memberships as well as day passes.

Wahlburgers has opened its third Sioux Falls location. The restaurant is inside the Hy-Vee at 3000 S. Minnesota Ave. in the former Market Grille space. Hours are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.

Regency Hotel Management has acquired Koko, a software system designed to simplify maintenance work orders and elevate communication and accountability. Koko founder Peter Stangas has joined the Regency team. The software will be available industrywide and has broader applications beyond hospitality, including in property management.

The Argus Leader has moved out of its longtime location at 200 S. Minnesota Ave., relocating to 710 N. Western Ave. Printing operations moved to Des Moines two years ago, and the newspaper now is transitioning to delivery through the mail rather than carriers.

Impact Sport Center is under construction at 500 N. Ebenezer Ave. It’s owned by Jason Wolthuizen and Chad Yde, who met when their kids played baseball together. The building will have courts that can be used for basketball, volleyball or pickleball. There also will be open field turf and batting cages. The goal is to open early next year.

Holiday season retailers have arrived at The Empire Mall. Camping World has leased the former Sears space for RV sales. Other shops include BS Metal Art kiosk; Christmas Treasures; Fandom kiosk; Go Calendars, Toys & Games kiosk; Jerusalem Handicrafts kiosk; Kozy Blankets & Gifts; and Northern Lights Art.

Kwik Star has opened two more locations in the Sioux Falls area this month. The newest stores are at 3310 N. Cliff Ave. in Sioux Falls and at 500 W. Willow St. in Harrisburg. Tentative opening dates have been set for other stores under construction: Dec. 7 for 6301 E. 41st St. and Dec. 21 for 2200 S. Ellis Road.

Signature Cos. has moved its office from 4800 E. 57th St. to a new building at 6700 E. Arrowhead Parkway.
