Visitor industry standouts were recognized Tuesday with annual awards from Experience Sioux Falls.

The awards were presented during the organization’s annual Visitor Industry Luncheon.

Four winners were given hospitality awards, which recognize a person or business who works at an attraction, hotel, restaurant or retail, and who comes in direct contact with visitors and consistently provides extraordinary customer service.

The winners are:

  • Attraction: Diane Olson, volunteer with Levitt at the Falls and Sioux Falls State Theatre.
  • Hotel: Barb Auch, Hilton Garden Inn Sioux Falls South.
  • Restaurant: Jessica Reichert, Phillips Avenue Diner.
  • Retail: Sarah Wheeler, Delta Air Lines — Sioux Falls Regional Airport.

The Heart of the City Award was presented to Don Kearney, who retired as director of the Sioux Falls Parks & Recreation Department this year after two decades in the role. It recognizes a person or business who has made a significant contribution to the visitor industry through inspiration, spirit and excellent leadership.

Mayor Paul TenHaken was presented with the Star Award for his leadership, support and admiration of the visitor industry during his two terms as mayor. Outgoing City Council members Curt Soehl, David Barranco and Vernon Brown also were recognized during the event for their service.
