A lot has happened here at Startup Sioux Falls since we moved into our new downtown coworking building, and things continue to evolve. We know it can be hard to keep up on the latest news and updates, so we rounded up a list of the top nine things you might not know about Startup Sioux Falls. You don’t want to miss out on these exciting events, perks and resources.

Check it out below!

We have been around since 2002.

The Sioux Falls Chamber of Commerce and Development Foundation opened the doors to the South Dakota Technology Business Center (SDTBC) in 2002, then we became the Zeal Center for Entrepreneurship in 2014, and in 2019 we merged with a community organization called Startup Sioux Falls. We’ve got some experience! You can read the full story here.

Our grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony is on June 21!

Join us from 4:30 to 6 p.m. to celebrate the past, present, and future of the startup community and our new home in downtown Sioux Falls! There will be speakers, live music, building tours and a social hour with appetizers and drinks. The event is free, but we’d appreciate it if you register on Eventbrite so we can plan for food and drink quantities.

We are a nonprofit and our resources are for everyone.

While our beautiful, new coworking space has been a major focus for us over the last year, we would be remiss not to mention our mission-driven offerings that extend beyond this space and coworking memberships. You don’t have to be a member of Startup Sioux Falls to benefit from our resources, such as consulting, mentorship, events, meetups and our business accelerator program, CO.STARTERS. Our mission is to serve and empower founders, but who is a founder?

A founder is anyone who identifies as a business owner, CEO, entrepreneur, solopreneur, creative, freelancer, side-hustler, maker, artist or the person with tons of ideas!

We have a space for remote workers and founders.

Our mission is to empower founders, but our coworking space is also a home for remote workers. If your position is hybrid or remote, our coworking space may be an excellent option for your needs, such as desk space, blazing-fast Wifi, free coffee and a built-in community. Plus, we believe that interactions between founders and remote workers are mutually beneficial — we can always learn from each other! You can read more about the benefits of remote workers using a coworking space here. Also, make sure to grab a free week pass here (local residents only), save it to your phone and show it to us when you come in to experience it for yourself.

Booking meeting rooms and event space is open to the public.

Anyone can book our spaces — you don’t have to be a member. Organizations are renting our space for annual meetings, quarterly planning, pre-Levitt socials, end-of-year company parties or strategic meetings to name a few. Of course, members receive discounted rates (up to 50 percent off!), but all are welcome! Learn more about space rentals.

We don’t own the ecosystem.

We aim to be a landing place and a hub for founders, but we know we can’t (and shouldn’t) do it all. There are numerous resources, organizations and events in our city that serve diverse groups of founders, and we want nothing more than to support those offerings and serve as the community connector you can trust to point you in the right direction. If you’re hosting events or providing a valuable service to entrepreneurs, let’s connect! We’d love to partner together and promote you in any way we can. Reach out to our community coordinator, Amos, to connect.

Find a meetup.

Meetups are community events led by Startup Sioux Falls members that cater to specific groups or interests. A few examples are the Small Business Collective, Software Devs, Business Owner Moms (BOMS), BIPOC Founders, and eCommerce, but we hope to see even more of these groups starting up soon. Check out our event calendar to see when the next meetup is taking place! Also, if you have an idea for a meetup that would fill a gap in Sioux Falls, let our community coordinator, Amos, know.

Drop in for a day.

Whether you have a friend or colleague with a membership, are visiting Sioux Falls on business or simply need a change of pace, we offer day passes for anyone looking to cowork without the commitment of a membership. Purchase a day pass here.

You’re all caught up!
