Spring Parade of Homes casts spotlight on suburbs

May 9, 2024

This paid event listing is sponsored by the Home Builders Association of the Sioux Empire Inc.

The Spring Parade of Homes is set to unveil many growing trends in home construction, including this: the expansion of housing beyond the Sioux Falls metro area.

With almost 70 homes on display, this spring’s event showcases the increasing spread of homebuilding across the metro area, according to Erik Christensen, owner of Trademark Homes and event chair.

“This spring’s parade showcases a multitude of homes stretching from Sioux Falls to Harrisburg, Baltic and even as far as Wentworth,” Christensen said.

“The demand for ideal lots is propelling development beyond Sioux Falls, with new neighborhoods emerging in surrounding communities like Brandon, Tea, Dell Rapids and Harford.”

More than just a display of houses, the Parade of Homes, organized by the Sioux Empire Home Builders Association, serves as a platform to spotlight not only homes and developments but also the builders themselves.

“Attendees have the opportunity to explore various housing options and engage directly with builders to discuss their needs, whether they’re looking to build, buy or remodel,” Christensen explained.

The event, scheduled for May 11-12 and May 18-19 from 1 to 5 p.m. each day, offers both physical tours and virtual experiences.

With real-time updates on parade details, the app serves as a vital tool for navigating the event, allowing attendees to search for homes based on price and specifications, access floor plans, obtain directions and check availability.

Christensen emphasized the app’s role in providing up-to-date information, particularly regarding homes that may close because of selling before the parade starting, selling during the event or because of unforeseen circumstances.

In addition to showcasing the latest in home design and construction, the Parade of Homes provides insights into remodeling trends and ideas.

“Builders welcome questions from attendees, whether it’s about design choices, trends or renovation projects,” Christensen said. “With the comeback of white oak cabinetry to the emergence of vibrant exterior colors and expansive outdoor living spaces, the event offers a glimpse into the evolving preferences of homeowners.”

Christensen’s company will feature a twin home near Jefferson High School, reflecting a growing trend in affordable housing options.

Despite recent price increases, Christensen noted a current stabilization but cautioned about potential future hikes because of pent-up demand and reduced speculative construction by builders.

With homes ranging from the high $200,000s to $2 million, representing the work of 40 builders, the Parade of Homes offers a comprehensive view of new construction options.

While the event is free, there is a $5 donation per adult to tour the featured home offered during the Spring Parade.
