Pathward

The Network of Women employee resource group at Pathward NA has named Karla Cotton as the winner of its 2026 Empowering Women Award. Cotton, a team member for almost two decades, is the vice president of partner engagement. The award recognizes those who spend their time empowering women and future generations, going the extra mile to create a safe space for others, encourage community and develop others. Cotton directed a $1,500 donation that was part of the award to First Tee South Dakota, where she serves on the board of directors.

Southeast South Dakota Tourism Association

The Sioux Falls Zoo & Aquarium is the winner of the 2026 Southeast South Dakota Innovation Award from the Southeast South Dakota Tourism Association. It was recognized for transformations at the Great Plains Zoo, including upgraded habitats, the butterfly garden that is under construction and the aquarium to come.

Southeast Technical College

Southeast Technical College has been named one of 25 semifinalists for the $1 million 2027 Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence by the Aspen Institute. Ten finalists will be announced in June.
