Thinking of starting a business? This event is for you

Nov. 14, 2018

Is 2019 your year to become a business owner?

If you’re thinking about entrepreneurship but have more questions than answers, SiouxFalls.Business has a way to help.

We’re starting Learn to Launch, a workshop designed for prospective business owners.

“This is the sort of program I would have gone to when I was thinking about starting a business,” said Jodi Schwan, owner of Align Content Studio, the publisher of SiouxFalls.Business.

“It’s meant to answer some of the basic questions you likely have about becoming a business owner, connect you to valuable resources and give you a chance to talk through your idea in a supportive environment.”

The program will include overviews of accounting, banking, insurance and legal considerations for prospective small businesses from SiouxFalls.Business partners Eide Bailly LLP; The First National Bank in Sioux Falls; Howalt+McDowell Insurance, a Marsh & McLennan agency company; and Woods Fuller Shultz & Smith PC.

Small-group sessions will allow participants to talk through their potential business concept with a facilitator and receive feedback from others.

“So often, entrepreneurs just want to talk through an idea with someone who can ask pertinent questions and offer guidance, and this provides that chance,” Schwan said. “We’re grateful to our partners for bringing their expertise to this program and are glad we can be a connector for other small businesses.”

Learn to Launch will hold two three-hour programs Jan. 21 at the Zeal Center for Entrepreneurship. The first runs from 1 to 4 p.m. and the second from 6 to 9 p.m. Each session will be limited to 12 prospective businesses. In between the sessions, both groups can attend a networking event and tour Zeal.

The cost is $40, which covers two participants per business. To learn more and register for the 1 p.m. session, click here. To register for the 6 p.m. session, click here.
