The Great Eight: Gift ideas you can’t miss

This paid piece is sponsored by Nyberg’s Ace.

What better gift is there than making life easier, more relaxing and safer?

These items do all that and then some, thanks to the experts who picked them out for us at Nyberg’s Ace. That why we dubbed them “The Great Eight!”

MyPal Personal Safety Alarm and Light

You and your belongings just got safer with this rechargeable personal alarm and light. It’s the first flashlight made specifically with women in mind, according to manufacturer Nebo.

“It will send out an ear-piercing alarm and strobe light when triggered,” said Jody Rasmussen, Nyberg’s Ace corporate adviser for housewares. “It’s incredibly bright and an extremely powerful deterrent.”

The MyPal is water and impact resistant and easily clips onto a key ring or handbag.

ThinOptics Always with You reading glasses with pod case

Does someone on your list often reach for reading glasses? Bringing life into focus gets a lot easier with these ThinOptics – an amazingly thin pair of reading glasses that aren’t like any glasses you’ve experienced.

“They’re extremely thin,” Rasmussen said. “They just stick on your face with nose guards, so you don’t need full glasses, and you can always have reading glasses with you.”

The sleek, foldable design allows the glasses to be carried on a key chain, in a purse, wallet or pocket. They can even stick on the back of a smartphone. But the lenses are high quality enough to easily serve your reading needs. They come in several strengths.

Animal Warmies Neck Warmer

Who says adulthood means leaving your stuffed animal days behind?

These adorable creatures make great gifts for all ages. Heat in the microwave, and warm right up.

“They’re lavender scented, and kids will love hugging them when they go to bed on cold nights,” Rasmussen said.

Not sure you need the animal variety? They come as neck warmers too.

“You just heat them for about a minute in the microwave, put them on your neck, and they can be reused over and over,” Rasmussen said. “I’ve had one for years.”

Kalorik 3-in-1 Crepe Maker

It’s the season of comfort food and holiday brunches, so make this great gadget the newest addition to your kitchen or that of someone on your gift list.

This compact electric appliance is a popular seller this season in the Nyberg’s Ace housewares department, featuring a reversible nonstick plate that allows you to make pancakes, crepes or use it as a griddle with the flip of a pan. It’s even dishwasher-safe for easy cleaning.

“I know someone who just bought it and uses it every week to make Swedish pancakes and lingonberry crepes and all kinds of things,” Rasmussen said.

Milwaukee Packout Storage Organizer

If someone on your gift list might make a New Year’s resolution to get more organized, this will give some incentive to get started.

Milwaukee’s Packout modular storage system is the industry’s most durable and versatile, made with impact-resistant materials to withstand harsh environments and protect your tools and accessories from rain or debris.

“The Packout system allows you to customize and build your own storage system to easily transport and organize your tools and accessories, and we have lots of options in the store,” Rasmussen said.

“It’s great for the professional or a homeowner. Plus, Milwaukee is a very well-known tool brand, so you know you’re getting a high-quality product.”

Milwaukee M18/M12 Wireless Bluetooth Weather-Resistant Jobsite Speaker

Whether your job takes you outdoors or you like tackling projects in the garage, there’s no need to leave your tunes or favorite podcast behind.

This speaker offers the industry’s loudest, clearest sound system. Plus, it’s water- and dust-resistant. Use Bluetooth to connect your device, and you’re ready to go.

“Especially on a job site or outdoors, there can be a lot of noise to cut through, and this speaker can do it,” Rasmussen said. “Plus, its heavy-duty construction can withstand drops, impact and other abuse that can happen on the job.”

Maverick Digital Infrared Thermometer

Nyberg’s Ace is filled with gadgets and accessories for the grill or smoker in your home, so it’s hard to pick a favorite. But this is a strong contender.

This new digital infrared thermometer is so easy to use “you just point it, and it instantly tells you the temperature of your meat,” said Dan Stanga, better known as “Dan the Grill Man” at Nyberg’s Ace.

“You don’t have to stick a probe in the meat. You literally just walk up to it. This is the type of equipment health inspectors use, so you know you’re getting an accurate reading.”

Ego 56-Volt Single-Stage Battery-Operated Snow Thrower

Sometimes the best gifts are a little tricky to fit under the tree – and that’s definitely the case with this one.

After seeing the Ego battery-operated snow thrower in action, we actually thought snow-removal season didn’t sound so bad! Two words: low maintenance.

“There’s no oil or gas needed, no tune-ups needed with this snow thrower,” said Mark Pollard, Nyberg’s Ace resident expert on snow-removal equipment.

“This is totally electric – rechargeable batteries included. It runs on two 56-volt batteries.”

The batteries will last you well over an hour and take about an hour each to recharge. It throws snow 35 feet and doesn’t require air in the tires.

“This can easily handle a 6-inch snowfall,” Pollard said. “And it folds up enough to fit in the trunk of a car.”

Plus you won’t believe how light it is to push – Pollard uses a single finger to push it around the store. And it sounds like we weren’t the only ones sold on it.

“We’ve sold twice as many electric snow blowers at this store than gas,” Pollard said. “Electric is becoming much more popular.”
