Sioux Falls almost doubled its construction permits in January compared with the same time in 2017.
That’s thanks in part to seven projects totaling $1 million or more.
The total value of projects permitted was $29.1 million, compared with $15.8 million in the first month of 2017, which ended the year with a record total. Permits for January 2016 totaled $34 million.
Permits were issued for 16 single-family homes in January, which is five fewer than the previous year, and 23 apartment units, which is nine fewer than a year ago.
The seven projects exceeding $1 million were:
- Silverthorne Apartments, a portion of the project, 2113 S. Silverthorne Ave., $4.88 million
- Midcontinent Communications’ tech ops center, 1305 N. Terry Ave., $4.1 million.
- A portion of Gage Brothers Concrete Products’ new location, 2800 N. Bahnson Ave., $2.67 million.
- Aldi at 600 W. 85th St., $2.45 million.
- West 41st Street Commons apartments, 9000 W. 41st St., $2.16 million.
- North Star Grill, 4305 W. 61st St. N., $1.1 million.
- A commercial building in the University Hills Village development, 5600 W. University Trail, $1.05 million.
