SBA honors area small businesses

The South Dakota Small Business Administration is recognizing four small businesses this month in conjunction with the national Small Business Week.

Derek DeGeest of DeGeest Steel Works in Tea has been named SBA South Dakota’s small-business person of the year.

He was nominated by Mark Slade of the Sioux Falls Small Business Development Center and will be honored Monday in Washington, D.C.

Others honored by SBA South Dakota are:

Small-business exporter of the year: Meghan Andersen, Eric Hansen and Brad Hyronimus, Sioux Corp. in Beresford.

Woman-owned business of the year: Samantha Miller, The Farmer’s Wife Boutique in Aberdeen.

Family-owned business of the year: Stensland Family Farms, Sioux Falls.

“It’s an honor to highlight these small businesses for the valuable economic vitality they create across South Dakota,”  said Jaime Wood, district director of the SBA South Dakota District Office.
