Sanford, Empire Mall partner on castle-themed play area

May 7, 2018

Kids will have to get by a big red dragon and cross a moat before entering the new children’s play area at The Empire Mall, inspired by the castle-like Sanford Children’s Hospital.

The renovated play area sponsored by Sanford Health will include traditional and interactive play features with an open layout and bright colors.

“Sanford Health has been a fantastic partner of ours for over 10 years, and we are thrilled to join forces in designing our new play area,” said Kirsten Schaffer, director of marketing and business development at The Empire Mall. “The incredible design will pay tribute to Sanford Children’s Hospital and will allow children to engage with each other in a collaborative environment and encourage healthy living through activity.”

The play area includes a toddler space and interactive area for older kids, featuring a stomp tower race game requiring kids to stomp and run in place to fill their light bar before their opponents. Backless benches, with charging stations at every seat, will allow more space for strollers, and barstools will provide an area for caretakers to eat while watching kids play.

“The Empire Mall is a longtime partner for Sanford Health,” said Stacy Wrightsman, director of Sanford Health public affairs. “We are always eager to invest in programs that benefit children. What better way to do that than creating this play area to inspire imaginations and stimulate interactive learning opportunities.”

The renovated play area will open this summer in the same location, near Express and Dairy Queen Treat Center.
