Salt room, sauna business opens in new retail center

Here’s a new way to escape this week’s frigid weather: The Sauna Haus has opened.

It’s located in a new retail center at the southeast corner of 69th Street and Cliff Avenue.

Owner Lori Meyer started the business after discovering that natural therapies helped reduce her stress. A trip to Switzerland last year introduced her to thermal baths and saunas, and inspired her to bring something similar to Sioux Falls.

The Sauna Haus includes eight dry infrared saunas. One is ADA-compliant and all are full-spectrum, Meyer explained, with near, mid and far wavelengths.

“The near will impact things more on the surface of the skin. It’s good for helping release toxins,” she said. “The far goes deeper into the core, which is great for detoxification and weight loss, and mid goes just a little below the surface of the skin and is really good for circulation and lowering blood pressure and relieving joint pain.”

Each session is 40 minutes.

The two salt rooms are a newer concept in Sioux Falls.

Each salt room will seat up to four people, who will sit on lounge chairs and listen to music while a generator disperses invisible medical grade salt into the room for 45 minutes. The salt helps detoxify lungs and can help improve skin conditions and respiratory capacity, Meyer said.

“We recommend people wear a tank top and shorts, so that way your skin gets exposed too,” she said.

The Sauna Haus sells session packages good for both the salt rooms and saunas with six-month auto-pay contracts.

Hours are 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. weekdays, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. If no appointments are scheduled, it will close one hour early.
