Roll’n Pin switches to limited menu, hours with kitchen remodel

Sept. 10, 2018

A longtime restaurant has switched to a smaller menu with limited hours while it undergoes a full kitchen remodel.

Roll’n Pin Cafe & Grille sustained damage in the kitchen area late last month when a burglar broke into the building through a ceiling vent. Manager Mike Hillman, whose parents started the restaurant in 1974, said they decided to make the upgrades along with the repairs.

The work hasn’t started, and he expects it will be October or November before everything is completed.

“We’re going to have an exciting new menu,” Hillman said, noting that many Sioux Falls restaurants are moving toward pub-style food. “We’ll keep some of the favorites.”

Roll’n Pin has a beer and wine license.

Revenue has been increasing as the northwest side of the city grows, Hillman said. Roll’n Pin also is popular with tourists who stay at hotels in the area.

For now, customers can enjoy a breakfast buffet from 7 to 11 a.m. weekdays. It costs $8 and features scrambled eggs, waffles, biscuits and gravy, cheesy hash brown casserole, bacon, sausage and crepes or rolls. Saturday and Sunday’s brunch buffet includes breakfast and lunch items for $10 from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.

For lunch and dinner – served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. weekdays and 5 to 8 p.m. daily — diners can choose from grilled items: a bratwurst, hamburger, chicken sandwich, ribs, pork chop or steak.

Hillman said the restaurant is renting kitchen space to keep its catering business going during the remodel.
