Restaurant Roundup: New lunch buffet downtown, new happy hour

March 14, 2019

Myers’ Deli & More has added a lunch buffet featuring a different theme every day, from a backyard barbecue and comfort food to Chinese and Italian. The $13.95 buffet also includes a soup and salad bar. Owner Dan Myers is putting together an Irish-themed feed that will be served from 10 a.m. to at least 3 p.m. Saturday, coinciding with all of the St. Patrick’s Day festivities downtown. Sunday’s regular brunch buffet will include Irish offerings as well.

The new Blue Rock Bar & Grill, the transformed version of Will’s Training Table at the Sanford Sports Complex, has introduced its daily and happy hour specials. Tuesdays, for example, feature an $8 taco bar from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m., and Fridays are buy-one-get-one-free burgers with one order of fries from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Every weekday, the Trio Quick Lunch offers a cup of soup, half-sandwich and house side salad for $8. Happy hour is from 3 to 6 p.m. weekdays with a 16-inch pizza for $12 for Facebook and Twitter followers, a free pitcher of beer with an appetizer order and a two-for-one special on domestic beers and house wines.

Businesses at the 518 Marketplace in Harrisburg are expanding on the prepared-meal items made by Emer-GenZ Eats & Treats. Gravel Road Blend is packaging its soup in quarts and making single-serve keto-friendly meals with about three options every week. Shown below is the crustless taco pie. Not Just Cupcakes by Jen, which serves breakfast and lunch in addition to being a bakery, is making family-size Filipino stir-fry dishes.

Four Sioux Falls restaurants are among the first to be certified as Healthy Places by LiveWell Sioux Falls. Bread & Circus Sandwich Kitchen, Camille’s Sidewalk Cafe, Daily Clean Food & Drink and Sanaa’s 8th Street Gourmet were part of a pilot test, said Alyssa Gehle, LiveWell’s registered dietitian. The Healthy Place program officially launches March 25, but restaurants can start the application process now, Gehle said. Restaurants have to meet 80 percent of the criteria to be certified. The program looks at features such as being a tobacco- and e-cigarette-free property, providing healthy side dishes, featuring local foods and training staff to encourage healthy options.

Here’s a treat to enjoy with the warmer weather that arrives next week. On Wednesday, Dairy Queen is giving away free small ice cream cones at all locations.
