Report: Scams are a growing problem for small businesses

June 22, 2018

Almost two out of three businesses surveyed recently said they had been the victim of a recent scam, according to a report by the Federal Trade Commission, Better Business Bureau and law enforcement partners.

The Operation Main Street: Stopping Small Business Scams Law Enforcement and Education Initiative found scams are a significant and growing problem for small businesses.

“Nearly two-thirds of those we surveyed said their business had been targeted by a scammer in the past three years, and many said that their businesses suffered a loss of consumer trust as a result,” said Beverly Baskin, president and CEO of the Council of Better Business Bureaus.

A new report, found here, details the research and provides insight into how fraud affects small businesses.

In addition, the FTC and the BBB announced new business education materials, designed to help small-business owners and their employees avoid, identify and report scams.
