NBC ‘Today’ show to feature Dell Rapids movie theater

Nov. 6, 2018

An NBC “Today” show crew will be in Dell Rapids this week to record a feature on the Dells Theatre.

The locally owned single-screen movie theater will be featured as part of the network’s coverage of Small Business Saturday on Nov. 24. The story is scheduled to run Nov. 19.

“This is obviously an exciting moment for our community as a whole,” city administrator Justin Weiland said. “The Dells Theatre really is a large part of our community’s identity.”

Weiland praised owner Jeff Logan for his “labor of love to keep this small one-screen theater open and successful.”

Logan has invested in a digital screen and sound, a neon marquee and what Weiland touts as the best popcorn around.

Here’s how you can help: Dell Rapids is hoping to fill the theater Thursday night when the crew is recording. There will be a special advance showing of “The Grinch” at 7 p.m.

“It’s awesome that he will be reaching this level of recognition for his small business,” Weiland said. “We really want to pack the theater.”
